Peace Ornament
This image, “Peace,” was very popular in Europe and America during the 1800s. The original is in the Brecon Cathedral, Wales, and was replicated by artist William Strutt for the Peace Palace in the Hague, Netherlands. Mary Baker Eddy had a reproduction of it in her Chestnut Hill home.
On one side of this 3-inch porcelain ornament is this citation from Isaiah 11:6: “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.”
The other side of the ornament features a high-quality print of the painting by William Strutt. His granddaughter reportedly modeled for the “little child” in the portrait.
